Skybox (Skybox) is a technical term that is extremely important in rendering and optimizing game graphics (technical art). A virtual giant cube or spherical texture that surrounds the camera (infinite distance), representing the in-game sky, clouds, space, and mountains in the distance, and at the same time serves as a reference for the ambient light of the entire scene.

Real-world analogy: A gigantic 360-degree mural dome tent surrounding a theme park attraction

Skybox is "an infinitely huge 360-degree spherical dome mural centered on the player's standing position that the camera can never get close to, no matter how far it walks". No matter how vast the terrain is, the sky of the dome always stands beautifully in the infinity, with clouds and stars gently enveloping the player. In addition, the color of the paint (environmental light information) painted on this dome mural is automatically extracted as the ``air reflection light (environmental indirect light)'' of the entire scene, and blends faintly into the entire object, giving a perfect sense of unity to the entire world.

Detailed mechanism and operating principle

Open the Window > Rendering > Lighting window and set the Skybox material created from the 6-sided texture and panoramic image (cube map) to "Skybox Material" on the "Environment" tab.
